JOB TITLE:
Guard Shack Attendant
JOB DESCRIPTION NARRATIVE:
Performs security duties, both general and specialized. Responsible for assisting administration, faculty and staff in creating a safe, orderly school climate conducive to learning.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge & Certifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Armed Security License preferred
- Valid driver’s license
Skills:
- Able to effectively communicate with all persons regardless of socio-economic status or who are from different backgrounds, particularly those who are in a highly stressful emotional state
- Ability to create written reports that show a chronological order of events
Physical Requirements:
- Lift 50+ pounds
- Run/walk 1.50 miles without stopping

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Primary:
- Directs traffic, enforces parking, and other vehicle matters
- Notifies the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations (i.e. discipline infractions, evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, unauthorized visitors, acts of vandalism or similar incidents)
- Patrols property on foot and in vehicle
- Maintains a visible presence in areas assigned by administration and in areas with a heavy concentration of students
- Maintains a visible presence during scheduled duty time
- Document and file reports regarding safety and security issues, as needed
- Inspects parcels, packages and boxes when necessary
- Responds to calls of assistance
- Provides protective escorts
- Controls combative students, employees, visitors and/or criminal suspects, as needed
- Handles motorist assistance within constraints of regularly assigned duties of a certified peace officer without jeopardizing the safety and security of the building and its inhabitants
- Applies appropriate skills in safeguarding the District
- Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team
- Maintains consistent and punctual attendance
- Assists the school staff, law enforcement and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines
Secondary:
- Lock gates upon arrival; unlock gates before departure
- Personally check each vehicle and person entering and leaving the THS campus through the guard shack area
- Log all information on the Log Sheet for every student, vendor and visitor (vehicle and pedestrian) daily and submit to THS Receptionist
- Visually monitor campus areas with safety and truancy issues in mind
- Maintain radio contact about visitors to campus
- Maintain radio contact with administrators/SRO as needed with questions, concerns or emergency situations
- Participates in training sessions (i.e. CPR, First Aid, defensive tactics, or other school security training)
- Maintains good physical condition to pass annual fitness test
- Promotes and displays positive attitude and professional behavior towards all TPS staff, students, parents, visitors, outside agencies, and contractors
- Ensures attire and grooming is professional in nature and properly maintains the uniform; equipment must remain in good working condition
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to site and talk or hear. The employee will stand or walk. The employee will be required to intervene and/or physically restrain students or adults weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
NOTE: For the following requirements in terms of an 8 hour workday,
"Occasional" = 1-33%, "Frequent" = 34-66%, "Continuous" = 67-100%.
