JOB TITLE:   Preventionist Teacher - Middle School

                     *Temporary Grant Funded Position

 

SALARY:      Certified Teacher pay scale

 

JOB DESCRIPTION NARRATIVE:

 

To provide direct prevention and intervention services to students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:   

 

A bachelor’s degree in education with current certification.

 

Experience:

 

        Working with adolescent students in a classroom setting.

        Providing prevention or intervention programs to students.

        Coordinating SEL program implementation.

        Experience in working closely with at-risk youth and families.

 

Knowledge: 

 

A strong ability to get along with students, staff, and administration. Desire to teach social and emotional learning skills to adolescent students.

 

Skills:  

      

Effective communication and organizational skills, flexibility, ability to maintain confidentiality.  Exhibit computer proficiency in word processing and Excels.  Able to work independently to complete assigned projects.  Must possess management, instructional, and data collection skills.  Strong emphasis on working with the at-risk youth and adolescent students.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     

 

*Provide information relevant to drug/alcohol prevention to parents, students, teachers, and administrators.

*Provide in-class presentations to students using research-based prevention curriculum such as SEL, Bullying Prevention, Internet Safety, Lifelines Suicide Prevention, etc.

*Collaborate with the Safe Schools Coordinator to ensure that curricular programming coordinates with other district prevention programs.

*Work closely with administrators, teachers, counselors, and other district personnel to schedule student activities relevant to prevention.

*Serve on the site’s Safe and Drug-Free Schools Committee.

*Serve as a mentor/role model to students, including taking a personal interest in at-risk youth, making personal connections with them and their families to ensure students’ successfully complete school.

*Promote positive community relations through effective communication and       involvement of community members.

*Gather and retain all information necessary for the evaluation of grants relevant to the position.

*Ensure effective compliance with the goal of objectives of the relevant grants.

*Assist in the preparation of grant required reporting.

*Collect and report data required for program evaluations.

*Perform other duties as assigned by site principal.

Days: 169 -7 1/2  hrs/day

          +6 professional days

Hours:

  a.  Sit    2  hrs

  b.  Stand  3  hrs

  c.  Walk  2.5 hrs
